Baseball game updates from Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, the Eagles Varsity split a double header with Eudora on Thursday. Game one went south for Veritas with several miscues in the field and they lost 3-14. The Eagles refused to check out, as has been the case all season and won game two 4-3. Gavin Oberzan, starting pitcher for the first time this season, went 4.2 innings, threw a bevy of 12-6 curveballs, allowed just 1 earned run and struck out 3. Up 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th, James Lee came in and struck out the side with 12 pitches to secure the victory. Offensively, Bryce Miller hit a key 2 RBI double. Lee also recorded an RBI single. On Friday, Varsity defeated St. Mary’s 8-3 at final home game. JV Walks it off in game 2. Stella senior, James Lee had a complete game on the mound, striking out 13 with zero earned runs. The Eagles recorded 12 hits on the day with 7 RBI. Asher Lawson led the offensive front, going 3-4 with 3 RBI, then dashed off to take pictures for a formal he was attending Friday evening. Lee was 2-4 with 2 RBI, senior Shaphan Ming hit a 2 RBI triple and Lincoln Baum recorded an RBI single. We’d be remiss not to mention an incredible performance by the JV. Down 4-6 in the final inning, and the top of the order due up, Leadoff hitter Agape Morriss barrels a single to right-center field. Will Fitzgerald coaxes a walk, Colin Christline then gets plunked to load the bases. Cleanup hitter Jack Rogers, with two strikes on him smashes a line drive double to left field, driving in two to tie the game. Cale Whitaker with a quality at bat, earns a walk to once again load the bases. Graysen Jackson, with the opportunity every player wants, walks off the victory with an infield single, to secure the MVP along with Jack Rogers. Rogers was 2-2 with 3 RBI on the day, Christline and Graham Unruh also recorded hits and Amos Ney had an RBI. Pitching was solid with only 2 earned runs given up. #baseball #athletics #soareagles

High School Track had great time at the McLouth Invitational last night, with perfect weather and strong performances across the board. The Eagle women scored 19 points, with Juliana Yaluk-Shults leading the way with two second-place finishes—one in the 100-meter dash and the other in the 200-meter dash. On the men’s side, the team scored 13 points, with Korben Rodgers leading the way with 10 of those points, thanks to a second-place finish in the 100 and a fifth-place finish in the 200. It was a great night for this young team, and there’s plenty to build on the rest of the season. #track #athletics #soareagles

The junior and senior classes journied to the Truman Presidential Library in Independence, MO, for an educational simulation experience. The Truman Library's White House Decision Center, is the only White House Decision Center in the country, offers students a hands-on experience of being a member of President Truman's cabinet, tasked with advising him on a historical foreign policy decision. This year, students participated in the decision of whether to commit U.S. troops to the Korean Conflict. The students worked hard during this simulation experience, reading and analyzing top-secret documents of the era. This was a truly unique educational opportunity!

Veritas Defeats Bonner Springs High School at KU’s Hoglund Field for Senior Day. Varsity Eagles defeated Bonner Springs 7-5 on Saturday. All seven seniors  started (Austin Alvarez, Bryce Miller, Abel Ney, Gavin Oberzan, Graysen Jackson, James Lee and Shaphan Ming) with Lee securing the victory, going 6 1/3 innings on the mound and recording 8 strikeouts. Down 5-2 in the bottom of the 5th, Veritas began chipping away, scoring a run off of an RBI double by leadoff hitter Asher Lawson making it 5-3. Top of 6th - starting pitcher James Lee records two strikeouts and a groundout to get the Eagles back to the plate with work to do. Bottom of 6th - Lincoln Baum walks, Zach Kost reaches on an error, Bryce Miller walks and the bases are loaded bringing Gavin Oberzan to the plate. Gavin lays down a suicide squeeze bunt, scoring Baum from third and safely reaching first before the 2nd baseman could get there to cover. Lawson steps up and scorches one to the 3rd baseman who steps on third to record a double play. Still down 5-4 with two outs, James Lee steps to the plate, smashes a triple to right center, plating three runs and putting the Eagles on top 7-5. Veritas would go on to hold the lead in the top of the 7th (with a save by Shaphan Ming) capping a memorable Senior Day victory. Six seniors combined to record 7 hits and 5 RBI. Alvarez 1-3; Lee 1-3, 3 RBI; Ney 1-4; Miller 2-2, RBI; Oberzan 2-2, RBI.
